Lu An Gua Pian Green Tea

Lu An Gua Pian green tea, commonly called “melon seed tea,” is made from the second leaves of the crop. Its charcoal cooking gives a floral orchid fragrance and intense flavor. The leaves are bright green with a yellow border, a sign of an early-year harvest. This tea was harvested earlier this year in Lu’an, Anhui specifically in Mafu county.

Infusion method

We strongly recommend infusing Lu An Gua Pian in the traditional Chinese method (Gong Fu Cha) with a gaiwan with a capacity of about 150 ml. Following this brewing technique you can, with 5 grams of leaves, do multiple infusions and have the most complete tasting experience of your tea.

With water heated to a temperature of 75°C, an initial infusion of 25 seconds can be made and, keeping the water at the same temperature, the same leaves can then be continued to be exploited by adding more water and increasing the previous infusion time by about 5 seconds (25 – 30 – 35…).

For a more classic preparation in the Western style, we recommend 3 grams of leaves (about 2 teaspoons) in a 200-mL cup with water at 75°C for an infusion time of 2-3 minutes.

For a better tasting experience, we suggest that you strain the infusion as soon as the brewing time is over. The brewing time recommendations, however, can also be slightly adjust by your personal taste in order to obtain a strong or more delicate cup of tea.
