History and Tradition of Tokoname Ceramics
The city of Tokoname is one of the six oldest ceramic centers in Japan, with a tradition dating back to the 8th century. Its iron-rich clay reacts with the tannins in green tea, improving its taste and reducing its astringency.
Tokoname teapots are famous for their quality and refinement. The clay used is similar to that of Yixing (China), and the first red clay kyusu was created in 1854 by master Sugie Jumon.
Care and Maintenance
Washing: Only by hand with warm water, without detergent, to preserve the quality of the ceramic and filter.
