Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea 2018is a product carefully selected by Tea Soul to offer an even more in-depth tasting experience and knowledge of the complex puer tea variety.
The gardens where the leaves of this sheng come from are located in the Ban Zhang area, about 50 kilometres south of the city of Menghai. This specific area close to the south border of Yunnan, in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, gives birth to a lot of high quality puer thanks to the high quality material in the territory and the presence of several experienced tea artisans.
The infusion of Ban Zhang 2018 Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea has a fairly rich flavour profile that already shows some signs of ripening due to the age of the product. The sweetness of this puer, in fact, has no fruity side but tends, rather, to suggest a more savoury taste similar to that in rice or starchy foods.
In addition to this, on the vegetal front, the tea shows some slightly more elaborate flavours such as a slight bitterness similar to that in artichokes and a mineral hint with a balsamic character in the aftertaste.
The organic cultivation of this product has made it possible to preserve the flavours in the leaves in the best possible way and without alteration and, therefore, also to ensure optimal ripening of the puer. For this reason, Ban Zhang Organic Tea is great for enthusiasts who want to try aging the tea at home and taste its development over time.
In addition to this raw puer in our offer you can also find organic cooked puer such as Ripe Refined Organic Puer Shu (ripe) Tea.

Production
After harvesting, the leaves of Ban Zhang 2018 Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea are left to wither in the sun for a certain amount of time depending on the grower before going through the ‘green killing’ stage, which is broadly similar to that used to produce green tea.
In this case, however, the leaves are heated in the iron wok with a lower temperature than the usual standards for a green tea so it is possible to preserve some enzymes capable of changing the the taste of the tea through the time.
After being pan-fried the leaves rest during the night time before the last drying phase under the sun in the next day. In this stage the product is called maocha and it is ready to be (eventually) pressed in order to have the best conditions to being transported and aged.
To press the leaves, the producer exposes a certain quantity of the product to a strong steam jet for few seconds in order softened the vegetal mass and then wrap all up in a kind of sock or sac to imprint the final, usually discoid, form.
To maintain the desired shape the sac is put under an heavy stones for several hours or under a mechanical press while the leaves loose the residual moisture caused by the steam in the previous phase.
Infusion method of Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea 2018
We strongly recommend infusing Ban Zhang 2018 Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea in the traditional Chinese method (Gong Fu Cha) with a Gaiwan of about 100 ml capacity. Following this preparation, with 5.5 grams of leaves, you can make multiple infusions that will help you feel all the flavours of the tea.
After quickly rinsing the leaves with water at a temperature of 100°C, an initial infusion of 10 seconds can be made. Then, keeping the water at the same temperature, the product can continue to be used by adding more water and increasing the previous infusion time by about 5 seconds (10 – 15 – 20…).
For a more traditional Western-style preparation, we recommend 3 grams of leaves (about 2 teaspoons) in a 150 ml cup with water at 100°C for an infusion time of one and a half minutes.
For a better tasting experience we suggest to filter the infuse as close as possible to the proper steeping time indication. The brewing time recommendations, however, can also be slightly adjust by your personal taste in order to obtain a strong or more delicate cup of tea.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Benefits of Puer Sheng Tea (raw)
Puer Sheng (raw) teas have mainly effects on the nervous system. Thanks to their caffeine and amino acid content, they can both stimulate the mind, keeping it alert and reactive, and lower the production of certain hormones that lead to stress.
The charge induced by Puer Sheng (raw) Tea also manifests itself gradually in the body and is more long-lasting than the effect felt when taking Green Teas.
Finally, if you are particularly sensitive to caffeine, please do not take more than two cups of Puer Sheng (raw) tea a day and perhaps try to take this drink in the morning or early afternoon.
