Ru porcelain has a deep resonance, a greenish depth deriving from the beautiful oil enamel. These qualities all together give Ru porcelain a multicolored, multilayered appearance. Ru porcelain is highly heat conductive, so it is suitable for unfermented and lightly fermented teas, such as green tea and high mountain tea. Ru Kiln was the main of the five great oven centers of the Song dynasty. Ru porcelain is famous for the fineness and purity of its clay bodies, the fine workmanship in the forms, and the pure light blue color of its glaze. The latter was praised in the classic phrase, like the blue of the sky in a clearing in the clouds after the rain. The glazed surface always appears very fine, with complex cracks that suggest fish scales or thin cracks in the ice.
