About Ru ceramics
Ru Kiln, located in Lunru county in China’s Henan province, is another important celadon school that grew in northern China during the Song dynasty.
And one of the main five government furnaces from ancient China up to now. Similar in shape to Longquan Kiln, Ru Kiln porcelains also have slight cracks, which are created by a small percentage of iron in the glaze that oxidises and turns greenish when fired.
There are different types of colours of Ru accessories, such as moon white, light blue, pea green, robin’s egg green, sky green, pink green and so on. The cracks will become more and more apparent as they absorb the tea liquid, the process is quite similar to the Yixing teapot.
Cyan as the sky…
The way to polish/moisten Ru Kiln accessories is exactly the same as for Yixing products, which requires cleaning the accessories from water after using them and drying them completely before putting them aside for a long period of time.
Otherwise, tea stains will disturb the elegant shiny surface of the product, or the tea left inside the article will become mouldy if not cleaned in time and affect the taste of the tea in subsequent brews.
