The Amber GABA Oolong Tea follows one of the most traditional processing among the products of it category. The leaves, in fact, are left to oxidized for several hours in and environment poor of oxygen until they develop the right amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid to be defined GABA tea.
Even if this it sounds simple, the processing of this type of oolong requires a certain technology an experienced producer capable of administrating properly the gamma-aminobutyric acid. This molecule, in fact, besides its benefits for the organism, has and intense flavor that could overcome some aromas in the tea if the oxidation process wouldn’t be well mastered.
Depending on the producer, you can find a more or less intense taste of this neurotransmitter in your oolong but, everyone, is required to get a minimum content of 150 milligrams of gamma-aminobutyric acid per 100 grams of leaves in order to define the final product a GABA tea.
The Amber GABA Oolong Tea shows in the cup a well balanced and clean flavor profile. Instead of other highly oxidized GABA of us, here it is still possible to feel a vegetal trait followed by a delicate refreshing feeling.
The taste of gamma-aminobutyric acid here turns out to be savory, a little spicy and with a pleasant honey-like come back in the aftertaste.
Thanks to its pleasant and balanced infuse this oolong is a great way to enter the GABA world but, if you are already aware of this tea type or you want a stronger experience you can taste the Ruby GABA Oolong Tea.

Production
After the harvest the leaves of the Amber GABA Oolong Tea whiter under the sunlight for a brief period of time before going to rest on bamboo trays indoor. Now it’s time for the producer’s touch who have to decide when and how to activate the oxidation process by bending, manually or mechanically, the leaves.
For GABA tea, furthermore, the product go through the oxidation phase in an environment poor or oxygen so, during this biological process, it develops an higher concentration of gamma-aminobutyric acid.
When the tea gets to the desired oxidation level (here around the 50%) it goes into an electric or coal oven where, thanks to the high temperature, it’s possible to stop the enzymatic activity. After a while the leaves are pull out of the oven and they are ball rolled by a special machinery in order to get the best shape to be stored.
Before being packed the product rest for few hours in order to dissipate a bit of the residues heat and humidity.
Brewing instructions for the Amber GABA Oolong Tea
We invite you to brew the Amber GABA Oolong Tea in the traditional Chinese style (Gong Fu Cha) with a Gaiwan of an approximate capacity of 100 ml. Following this preparation, with 5 grams of leaves, you can make multiple infusions that will help you feel all the flavours of the tea.
After a brief rinse of the leaves in water at a temperature of 95°C you can do a first infusion of 10 seconds and, after that, maintaining the same water temperature, you can continue to push the product rising up the previous steeping time of 10 seconds (10 – 20 – 30…).
In order to have a more traditional brew in the Western style we suggest to steep 3 grams of leaves (about 2 teaspoons) for one minute and an half, using water at a temperature of 95°C in a mug with an approximate capacity of 150 ml.
For a better tasting experience, we recommend filtering the infusion as soon as the set steeping time has elapsed. The infusion times we suggest, however, can also be slightly modified to your liking to obtain a more or less intense flavour.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
