Yixing Clay
Yixing clay teapots are made from Yixing clay, a clay, also called purple clay, named after the city of the same name in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. In China, these teapots, which originated in approximately the 15th century, are still used today to brew tea according to the traditional method. Yixing teapots are designed for use with black tea and oolong tea, as well as aged puer tea. They can also be used for green or white tea, but the water must be allowed to cool to about 85 °C (185 °F) before pouring the water into the teapot. Yixing teapots absorb a small amount of tea during brewing.
