This Oil Spot Style Jianzhan Tenmoku Teacup is a typical Chinese gongfu style teacup. Inside there is a silver carp, a magnificent decoration for the finest teas.
The material
Jianzhan (also known as Tenmoku pottery) has been used to make cups and tea ceremony accessories since the Song Dynasty. In China, people called it Jianzhan, in Japan Tenmoku pottery: artist You Wen uses the local iron-rich clay as material to make the glaze and body before firing it at 1300 degrees Celsius in a kiln. The rich iron content allows for the creation of a specific clay which is used for all traditionally consumed tea and alcoholic accessories.
